Mariah Carey Fails to Impress at Rockefeller Center Show

I've never been a Mariah Carey fan, and I especially dislike her smash holiday hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You." I realize that mine is a minority opinion, as she's undoubtedly one of the most successful recording artists of all time and her holiday hit single has become a genuine Christmas classic. But while I admittedly don't know the woman, I've been so thoroughly turned off by what I've seen of her egomaniacal personality and diva-like behavior that I can't possibly be objective about any of her work.

Well, the diva seems to be embroiled in another mess this holiday season as a result of her scheduled appearance on NBC's annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center broadcast Wednesday evening. Because of Carey's reputation for unreliability, NBC had arranged for her to pre-tape her performance on Tuesday, the day before the actual event. They even arranged for a live audience made up of the singer's fans. Unfortunately, Carey essentially blew off the pre-taping, reportedly to have a long phone conversation with her divorce lawyer. As a result, NBC incurred needless expenses and hundreds of her fans had to wait in the cold for nothing. Carey tweeted an apology for keeping everyone waiting, but that may be too little, too late.

Arrangements were hastily made for Carey to return on Wednesday for the actual show, which she showed up for on time. However, she doesn't seem to have adequately prepared her voice for the event, and her performance has been roundly panned. The microphone feed of her live vocals that's currently circulating highlights just how off her performance truly was:

Stars who treat their fans with disdain usually don't remain big stars for long.
